The institute has received funding from the UK Medical Research Council through the University of Liverpool to conduct a study on medication safety issues related to antiretroviral therapy. The study will run over two years, at three clinical sites. It aims primarily to determine the prevalence of medication safety issues (drug interactions, adherence issues, prescribing issues) in patients taking antiretrovirals, and to determine the extent to which adverse events occur as a result of medication safety issues. The study will inform development of simple interventions to improve the safety and treatment outcomes of patients taking antiretrovirals. The study is funded by the UK Medical Research Council, and overseen by the University of Liverpool, UK, in partnership with the Infectious Diseases Institute.
